Great courtyard in the back. Quiet (from street noise), beautiful setting, good music usually playing. Just a really nice place to have a few beers, burger, or whatever during nice weather.

Been here twice; once at night, once for lunch on a weekend. Like everyone says, nice courtyard/patio. Maybe ten tables. Service is spotty. Food is spotty. Drinks are typical. We've had a great Reuben, salty fried cod, a tasty, large chopped salad (reminded us of Portillos on down to the dressing), a huge burger and good bun (burger is the best thing there) and a decent steak sammich. Bad steak fries. Good homemade fried chips. It's a nice setting with a hit and miss experience otherwise. For now, we can say we've experienced "222." Golden Tee Golf inside. Nice bar. Wish there was more to add.

Good Bar! Great Service, the owner even bought us some Fireball.. I like it during the day and at night not so much! gdd

I think I'm possibly just a few years older than the target audience here. The beer selection was lacking (service was friendly though). It's a younger (very drunk) crowd. The crowd 28 and under was having a blast though. I would say skip it if you are over 30.

Many years ago this was the place to go. Not anymore. Not bad not good completely indifferent. The service, the bar, the drinks, the crowd, blah. Not bad not good so be it.

This review is only concerning the comedy showcase here on wed nights. The sound system here stinks. The show is in its own area, but it is not separated from the other part of the bar. The people at the bar are way too loud for comedy here. Even the people in the show are seem to not pay attention to what is going on. Comedy here should cease.

I like this place so I gave it 4 stars. I'm gonna do a pro con on this review Pro: Daily specials or drinks and food Free popcorn huge hidden patio out back good prices Con wait staff is not exactly eye candy Wait staff is slow and inattentive Bathrooms are dumps crap sound system This place is a good stop on a bar crawl but not the reason to go out.

This place has a great outdoor courtyard, and is much less frat-tastic than nearby Filling Station. Bottle domestic beers are like $2.50, service is attentive enough, and the food is pretty decent (I particularly enjoy their onion rings and homemade potato chips with ranch. Steer clear of the spinach artichoke dip - terrible!) Definitely a great summer destination if you want to have a few beers while working on your tan.

Good service, good food, good times! Always a good St. Patrick's Day fest! Try the sliders. They make a good drink and you feel comfortable in there. Awesome outside patio with a fountain and sometimes there are good bands there. I think it's usually on Saturdays.

We were looking to go somewhere for dinner with outdoor seating and 222 came up, so we decided to try it. The courtyard was nice, except for the run down looking bar in the corner and the view into the kitchen or back of the kitchen. I have to admit though I don't like sitting near a waitress station, bus station, or kitchen anywhere I go, regardless of how nice or clean it is. Anyhow, we ordered spin artichoke dip, which was good, made with real melted cheese. It's hard to explain it, you'll have to try it to see what I mean. Our burgers were good, but both cooked well done after we ordered medium and medium rare. Please don't ask me how to cook my burger if you're gonna cook the crap out of it regardless of what I wanted. Overall good experience and will definitely go back.

I was here on a Saturday afternoon, so I can't really speak for the nightlife aspect of the place, so I'll concentrate my review on the service and food. I sat at the bar and the bartender was very friendly and attentive and made sure my beer was always full. I ordered the burger, which they advertise as a half pound burger with fries. It didn't feel like a half pound burger, but it was still excellent and you can't beat the price for it. I definitely want to come back at night and check the place out again, but overall I really liked it. One thing that I didn't care for was that everything looked dusty, like no one had done a thorough cleaning in a really long time. The bar itself wasn't dirty or gross, it was just the stuff out of reach (decorations near the ceiling type stuff) that was in need of attention. One last note, if you like ranch dressing, they make their own here and it is phenomenal!

They used to have good drink specials, food specials and raffles on Sunday for the Bears game. Not this year. We stopped going there for the games. Still like the beer garden in the summer.

Beautiful interior, but marred with typical sports bar nonsense. The main room is incredibly narrow, so add any amounts of people and you've got a wind chamber of discomfort.

A great lil Irish pub in downtown St. Charles, near the corner of Main & 3rd St. on the west side of the river. Good prices and friendly staff. I'm a fan! We're actually in talks with Pub 222 about possibly doing the bartending services for our wedding. Hoping that will work out. I've seen them at other events in the area, and have been very happy. They also support good causes, like cancer research!

I used to love Pub 222...but haven't even bothered ordering any food in the last 6 months due to all the Wops & Cholettes dominating the bar & sidewalks outside. Its nice if you want to watch a sports game....but if me & my girls are out looking for eye candy, we prefer it to not be on a TV, thank you very much! lol! Cest la vie though, its a young people bar now...used to be our favorite hangout so if you're young (or looking for young) don't let my review discourage you. Just the place has changed over the last few years. I'll assume that the Pub food is still delicious though!

During a couple-bar-birthday crawl Pub 222 ended up on our radar. It was nothing to write home about but enough to review about. We easily found enough tables for the 11 of us. There were a lot of tvs with sports on (a win). Our waitress was pretty prompt and very friendly. All in all, a very easy-going experience. Only negative was how loud it was but...it's a bar on a Saturday night - what do I expect?

We were in town recently for River Fest and stopped at the Pub 222 for drinks on the (very nice!) patio. The Pub is not fancy--kind of a cross between an Irish pub and sports bar--and we used to go there frequently when we lived in town. We ordered the house wine, and it was served in little plastic cups, which I understand, considering the hard patio surface. When we got our bill, we were amazed that those small cups were almost $7 each! I realize some of the more upscale places overprice even the least expensive wines, and we don't usually complain about the prices of our leisure choices, but this is a bar-bar and we thought it was a little ridiculous. Our local restaurant/bar serves a bigger glass of the same wine for $4, and I'm sure they're not operating at a loss. Nice as the Pub's patio is, that was a real turn-off.

This place has the worst drink specials ever! Example: Thursday night, $3 bottles? WHAT A JOKE.

Went here for the nightlife one night. A little downtown St. Charles barcrawl and this was one of the stops. Didn't even know there was an outdoor patio. That's pretty cool. Indoors looked a little small to my liking. Could have just been really crowded but who knows. But overall, during this night the bar was packed. With people of all ages even. Had TVs all around and played good music too.Cheap drinks. Short and sweet review but this place is average. Nothing wrong but nothing special.

Went here for the first time recently on a Saturday night after dinner with friends. We just stopped in for a cocktail or two. It is obviously a hang out to locals and a little younger crowd, but just fine. The tables were clean, restrooms were not. The outdoor patio is very nice on a breezy night and light with white Christmas lights, too! (They got an extra star for the Christmas lights) I won't be rushing back, but if in the area, I may stop in if I need a liquid beverage.

Don't know why we always end up at this place, but it was far more inviting then the looks of the Filling Station down the road. No offense to the "bouncer" but I hope to god a fight never breaks out or he has to throw anyone out. The guy looked about 16 years old was nice and not your typical surly bouncer that simply utters. "sup" on the way in. I could be wrong, maybe he would be able to bounce someone out. Let's hope it never comes to that. Service was ok, but it was pretty packed so we understood and she was really nice when she did finally make it over. Drinks are reasonably priced. It's an alright place to throw a few back and the staffers are pretty nice, Just kind of lacking that certain vibe? Who knows, maybe third time will be the charm.

I went here again last night, and it was like an STC class of 2005 reunion. Maybe it's because it's a Friday night during winter vacation, but seriously, with ALL the bars in St. Charles, it's surprising EVERYONE goes to 222. Upon my second inspection, it's really nothing special. I had an amaretto sour and it was $4 and served in a tall glass, so that was a good deal. The bartenders are all really nice. I had been standing at the bar and as soon as one was finished filling an order for a waitress' table she asked me what I wanted, and two seconds after she left to make my drink another bartender asked if I needed anything. They're definitely attentive even when crazy busy. However, it was too packed. I feel like they need to take a cue from the Beehive and not let people in once they're at their capacity. It literally took us 5 minutes to get out of the bar when we were ready to leave. God forbid, if a fire ever broke out there everyone would die trying to work their way through the masses out of the exits. It's not a bad place, but be prepared to stand and not get a table unless you're extremely attentive, quick, and ready to pounce when one opens up. It's also not a place to go if you want to have any sort of meaningful conversations because it's so loud. And be prepared to be overwhelmed with 19-23 year old St. Charles high school alumni (if you go during any sort of school break or summer night) It was also really warm in there (probably from all the people). Also, I had my first sketchy St. Charles loner bar guy experience here when this random guy who appeared he came alone (who goes alone to a bar in STC on a Friday night?) came up to the guy my friend and I were standing with and started making conversation and trying to hit on me. I managed to fake a very in-depth conversation with the girl who was with us so we could ignore creeper boy. He was probably the only person in the bar I didn't know from high school.

Cool outdoor area on a nice summer night. Food wasn't that good, drinks were okay though. A cool place in St. Charles. Won't be rushing back, but I'll find my way eventually.

Went here today for lunch before going shopping. They have an adorable little beer-garden/patio setup. The special was $1 domestic drafts (can't beat that!!!) so we were inclined to have a few. For lunch we had wraps. Mine was buffalo chicken, which was spicy but delicious, and with it perfectly crunchy sweet potato fries. My fave! Anyway, 4 beers, two wraps and the bill with tax was only $27. Plus I got a free tan. :) I would definitely want to come back here again, but I have no idea what it would be like on the weekends. It was pretty quiet on late Monday afternoon, only three or four other tables. I would assume it gets pretty busy evenings and weekends.

The last meal I ate here (brunch) I was served moldy toast. Yes, visible mold on the bread. Yet it's still my favorite spot in downtown stc. That is my devotion to you, Pub222. I'm not sure why, or how. But every time I'm here, I'm in a great mood and affordably buzzed. (and the food is actually pretty excellent).

We headed to Pub222 (4/4/09) since we had a Restaurant.com gift certificate that I got for 70% off. Hey, you hand me a free $22 and I'm all for trying you out. We walked in and it very much is a bar-bar and although serving food with a decent menu, it's not really a destination restaurant location. The food was good though, but good bar food. There was only one "sitting table" that we saw in the main part of the bar which we needed since we were going to be using the highchair. The other tables were more bartop type tables. Beer was good, plenty of tv screens for watching sports. Waitress was very attentive and stayed on top of drinks and things. But when given a choice of what's up and down 64 on that stretch, there's far better choices. If I was just going out with the guys for some food and sports watching, than this is the place.

I second a lot of Brian L's review. And we had a $23 coupon (80% off!) from restaurant.com . We were going to a show at the Arcada and this was within walking distance and had a nice outdoor eating area. Yes, very much a bar bar but a nice one and we walked right through to a really nice large landscaped patio. Excellent beer batter onion rings, and lots of premium draft beers. We shared a large fresh chop salad and had a reuben sandwich $9, VERY GOOD, and my Walleye Fillet was large and good enough at $11 including cole slaw and potato. We left with a large leftover box. I would give it 4 stars for bar food, much better than average. We saw some other good looking sandwiches and fat burgers being served around us. They also serve breakfast ALL day long and had a couple interesting looking egg/dinner combos like a rib eye and a couple eggs. Attentive competent waitress. I'll be back for lunch, maybe breakfast and ALWAYS outside. Pros - Interesting diverse menu includes walleye fillets and breakfast all day, gorgeous outdoor garden area, competent servers. Cons- Indoors much smaller than Beehive and IS more of a bar bar than a sportz bar.

I love coming down to the St. Charles area with my girl friends to hit up the bars to get a couple drinks. My friends and I came here over Halloween weekend which was great b/c they had almost everyone in costume. The waitresses were dressed up and they had some drink specials. The atmosphere is really nice. They had a DJ that was playing music where everyone was dancing to. Only problem was that it was getting really warm in there b/c of all the people and our waitress wasn't that friendly. In the beginning we got great service from her, then as the night progressed she forgot about us and our drinks. Lucky for her we would still go back there despite her lack of service to us. Overall great place if you're looking for a chill place during the weekend where its usually not overly crowded and there aren't many 21 year olds getting drunk.

Stopped in for lunch this afternoon. As far as pub/bar food goes, the sandwich (chicken covered in melty artichoke/mozzerella ooey gooey goodness) I had at Pub 222 was good. Our waitress was nice and prompt.

Great slider menu. In fact, their whole menu is good. This is one of our favorite haunts in the area. Nice patio during warmer months.

Visited for the first time last night. The burger sliders were the best ever. Normally sliders are dry and the bun is hard. These were perfect. The chili cheese fries were complimented by some cold beer. The service and atmosphere were great. We will be back!!

You know what? I like this place. It doesn't promise to be anything more than it is: a solid pub with food and friendly wait staff. Add to that the nicely-sized patio, and during the summer it's a good go-to place.

  • Patrick B.

Had a temporary bouncer(large bald heavyset gentleman in his late 20s or early 30s) tell us the place was "full". I have seen this bar more full on off days. There was at least 3 open tables Great bar, but lousy temporary employee. It almost seemed as if the guy wanted to start a fight. No problem, took our business to another local establishment this St. Pats

You don't do much better than downtown St. Charles. Pub 222 is right near the river, and they offer a really nice outdoor seating area. It doesn't have a view of the river out there, but I liked the enclosed, private feel of it. The food is pretty standard fare, but they offer a few unique appetizers, and they make their own potato chips, so take those over the fries if you can. Not that the fries are bad, but homemade chips are hard to beat.

My visit to Pub 222 was for a socially different reason than the reviewers below. We were looking for an Irish send-off after a family member's funeral. Pub 222 could not have been more perfect. Manager Cassie and servers Bailey and Mia were terrific. We probably had 85 people there and they kept up with the sandwich buffet and drink orders. The food was delicious! A friend with an MSG sensitivity had no problem with any of the food, either. While serving funeral luncheons may not be what Pub 222 is famous for, they did an awesome job for us.

I really don't know what draws anybody to hang out here. It's BORING!! Nothing stands out at all. There's no dance floor and no DJ. I don't see any reason to go here. The beer is cold and that's the best part of this place.

Stopped in here for lunch 2 days in a row because the soup was so amazing. Yes - the SOUP! Great lunch spot. Weather was perfect for the courtyard. Service was so-so on one day, but spot o the next. Will definitely be back when we are in St. Charles again.
